Announcing October’s Monthly Read... One Hundred Years Of Solitude

I am so excited to announce that Service95 Book Club’s Monthly Read for October is the brilliant One Hundred Years Of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez. It follows seven generations of the Buendía family in the fictional town of Macondo, and I was fascinated by García Márquez’s interweaving of magical realism and the realities of Colombia’s culture and history. Yes, it’s not the simplest read but sifting your way through and surrendering to García Márquez’s incredible storytelling is all part of the experience. I read Gregory Rabassa’s masterful English translation – and who knows, maybe one day I will be able to read it in the original Spanish. Head over to Book Club, where you’ll find our discussion guide to dive deeper into the story, along with a brilliant Q&A with Gabriel García Márquez’s son, the director Rodrigo García, on the writer’s family dynamic and insights into his creative process and inspirations, plus musings on the novel’s lasting legacy from award-winning Colombian novelist Juan Gabriel Vásquez and so much more. I hope you’re enjoying Book Club as much as I am.
